Elizabeth Seton Academy
Mrs. Herzog – Art I-II 2005-2006
Course Content: Art I is an introduction to the basic elements of drawing, printmaking, sculpture, and painting. Students will explore ways of drawing from life; outdoors from direct observation, from still life objects, self-portraiture and gesture drawing. Thinking of drawing as a foundation, I want to use still life to understand how we translate our three-dimensional surface. Students will explore mark making, contour drawing, and a variety of media, including collage, watercolor, and printmaking. Art history and art appreciation are also a part of the course curriculum.
Course Content: Art II further explores drawing, printmaking, painting, art history, and art appreciation. Students will draw from life, learning how to record light, shadow, form and color. This class will focus on the sketchbook as space to generate ideas, practice drawing, and collect images.
Students will engage in class discussions, art critiques and slide shows, looking at major works throughout art history.
